Kony 2012: Redefining the Hypocrisy through “Social Media” ?

It appears that the goal is to ‘make Joseph Kony famous' so that world will know the beast of a human he is, instead, it seems like the making and branding of a social media phenomenon; a man committing crimes that have become the hallmark of every conflict on the continent of Africa for decades. Why all the surprise and outpour of emotions all of a sudden? In fact, from the trans – Atlantic Slave Trade to the Scramble for Africa, from the Cold War (proxy wars in Africa) to the immense brutality of multi – national corporation (capitalism?

My Journey Home Part III – Why Nobody knows what International NGOs do in Liberia

I spent my first four weeks in Liberia trying to figure out exactly what thousands of “expats” working with various international NGOs were doing in Liberia. From University Students to Professors, I just could not find that much to explain the number of NGOs operating in Liberia, but I decided to stay away from making stereotypical assumptions. Not until I started asking locals working for these organizations including the United Nations. “What are they doing here?” That was the question I encountered almost every time I engage Liberians on the subject.

My Journey Home – Part II (Please to Meet Mom)

I have met many great people; seen many great deeds and intentions, seen many great places, lived and heard many great stories. But there is a WOMAN who is just beyond my greatest imagination of what a human being can possibly do, not for herself or her family, but for the good of us all especially those most in need.  PLEASE TO MEET MY MOTHER!

How do you manage to do all the things you do and still be the person you are? This is the most asked question I get everywhere I go.

My Journey Home – Part I

For the first time in my life, I was afraid of myself. Afraid to face who I am or who I was about to find out I am. June 23, 2011 came faster than I ever imagined and here I was standing at Pearson International Airport returning to Liberia.

At first, I wanted to get to the airport early enough to have some time to catch up with friends and supporters who came to say goodbye. But then I realized that it was just too much for me, so without telling anyone, I arrived at the airport with 30 minutes left for checking in my luggage.

So you think you know Liberia?

Welcome to my new blog, "this2isliberia.posterous.com" as we explore the true history of Africa's oldest Republic, it's peoples, cultures and exitence. This is a unique opportunity for Liberians and non Liberians alike to share with the world the country Liberia. We've seen the wars, poverty and other calamities through the media that have been used to create an identity that is unbalanced and inaccurate. As Liberians, we need to start asking ourselves what we don't know about ourselves. Our history has been written excluding us, in fact we have come to accept what we've been told when our true history lies in the stories, poems, artifacts and wisdom of our chiefs and elders. It is not too late, it is time for us to begin the process of writing our history as our ancestors lived and knew it. It is time to record what is still existing and search for the missing pieces like never before.Over the coming months, we will be going through some background and history of how we evolved from chiefdoms, villages and towns into a country. In addition, I will be traveling to Liberia to help introduce the other side of Liberia we never see in the media.Feel free to make contributions, share your opinions and ask questions as we take this journey of truth together.
